The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, at the state sports council meeting in shimla assured to develop better sports infrastructure for sportsmen and to facilitate more sports activities.With this view the government is exploring possibilities of setting up Astro-Turf Hockey Field at Bilaspur.
He said that work at Katasani cricket stadium at Shimla will soon begin as the land has already been handed over to the sports department.He directed the concerned officers to precipitate work on the stadium.The Katasani stadium would be utilised for sports like Hockey,Cricket and football.
It was approved during the meeting to prepare a proposal to engage grounds men and other class IV staff for the upkeep of stadiums at Una,Rohru, Bilaspur and Hamirpur and also adequate funds for the upkeep of synthetic athletic tracks at these stadiums.
The Chief Minister directed, to do re-mapping and proper maintenance of the stadium at Una. He also asked the officials to provide adequate budget through sports welfare fund to sportsperson who gets injured or falls ill. He also directed to raise funds for State level Junior Tournaments under Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan and district tournaments seeing the increase in the number of participants.
