The Indian Railway employees, Moga’s Harmanpreet Kaur,26 and Shimla’s Sushma Verma,23 had made the region proud by making it to the 15-member Indian Women Cricket team for the T20 World Cup which begins in March.
Harmanpreet,a right handed batswomen made her one-day International debut in 2009 and and Test debut in 2014.She has already played two World Cups and four World T20s.
Sushma,a sports fanatic with added interest in hockey,handball and volleyball apart from cricket has represented India Blue Women,India Women and Indian Board President’s Women XI.She proved herself in the role of the wicket keeper last year during T20 home series against New Zealand and will be keeping the wickets for India during the T20 World Cup in March-April.At present she is playing in Australia.
Harmanpreet who was drawn towards cricket because of her father recalls with nostalgia,“He conducts gully cricket tournaments. I used to accompany him to these matches and have stood in as a fielder whenever needed.”
