SDM of Manali Jyoti Rana said that no nomination has been received from Burwa, Shanag , Palchan, and Old Manali and the issue was highlighted by the media.
SDM also mention that authorities of the district administration had requested villagers to withdraw the boycott call. The villagers were angry over the damage of there business and negligence of the state government in their rehabilitation.
On July 7, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had forced a ban on all commercial ventures like horse-riding, snow-biking, paragliding, tyre-tube game, snow scooters, skiing, bungi-jumping at the eco-sensitive Rohtang Pass, Solang Nullah and Marhi to preserve the delicate condition of that area.
Nearly 90% population in 9 villages of three panchayats Goshal, Palchan and Burwa was only dependent on tourism at the Rohtang Pass, Marhi and Solang. The villagers had lost their source of income.
Villagers had said that the state government had failed to put up their case before the NGT.“Not either the villagers have been rehabilitated, nor they gave any compensation,” they said.
The green tribunal had also banned dhabas, khokas and rehris at the Rohtang Pass. Except water, everything else was prohibited in and around the pass.
