Candidates, who are engaging in the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) elections in the state will have to take pledge that they will not involve in any drugs like opium, cannabis (marijuana) and poppy husk nor they will allow others to do so
The State Election Commissioner T G Negi also said that “It is decided in the legal luminary meet at Manali, following with the new condition added in form 18 of nomination.”
This step will help in creating awareness about the ill effect of taking drugs.Candidates will pledge that they will not allow these drugs to be produced in their respective panchayat’s and create awareness about the ill-effects of these drugs.
T G Negi observed that growing of opium and cannabis had received an unfortunate name for Himachal So, It will act as an initiative to battle drug danger and would help in changing the growing trend of drug abuse among the youth.
As per the data, the police department had seized 204.500 kgs of charas,4.734 kgs of opium and 1706 kgs of poppy husk during this year till (October 31, 2015),
The filing of nominations for the election of 192 Zila Parishad members, 1,280 Panchayat Samiti members, 2,436 panchayat pradhan, and up-pradhans each and 15,438-gram panchayat members would be done on December 15, 16 and 17. review would take place on December 18, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is December 21.
The counting of votes for Pradhan, up-pradhan and panchayat members would be taken up immediately after the close of the polling while voting for Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad members would be taken up on January 7 at respective block headquarters, and the election process would close on January 8, 2016.
The filing of nominations is yet to start, but social media like Facebook, Twitter, and Whatsapp, is already started with the election campaign, and the youth has taken the lead in introducing the candidates, projecting their positive and negative image to the voters.
